Um Huh, [sighs] what a day. What an app. I do feel like today my mom um took some steps back for sure. End of Samba, big fan. Thoughts on the D&D/WoW crossover. Okay, we're just getting into this now, huh? So the first question has nothing to do with today's show. Uh I was a huge World of Warcraft player. I don't know how many like combined days of my life I put into that game, but quite a few hundreds.
I have mixed feelings about it. Like I think it's kind of cool, but I also I'm like this is just the first step. It's like the gateway drug for um Hasbro to be able to turn Dungeons and Dragons into what they're doing with Magic the Gathering where you they've already kind of teased there's going to be a Star Wars D&D and who knows what else.
There's going to be an Office D&D and blah blah blah. And I I don't know. I just don't like Universes Beyond ideologically, I guess, for any of those things. But that's where I stand. I I mean, I was kind of talking about this today in the show. I think like um Tawny Balanche certainly is on the hook. But like all these other Republican senators and Congress people who are voting for all this [ __ ] that Trump wants and uh putting these people in in office or you know certifying them or whatever. Um I I think they also must feel or know that they have committed some kind of criminal acts that are going to probably land them in jail for the rest of their life unless they can completely control the political apparatus from now until their death. So I think like all
of them pretty much are working toward the complete dismantling of the American political system, any kind of freness or fairness, and they are working to install people that will assure crimes are hidden. What they don't realize is that Trump doesn't give a [ __ ] about any of these people. He'll throw anybody under the bus at any time as evidenced by all the people he's fired and sent to jail.
Uh Michael Cohen comes to mind, you know. So I don't think like that makes them any safer, but also the the converse certainly doesn't. If they like oh have a change of heart and they're like I can't vote this guy in and then Trump gets pissed at him and you know launches all whatever the blackmail is that he has against them and all that kind of [ __ ] So I don't know. Um I don't know if that video would change my mom's mind. I I do feel like today she took kind of some steps back and I found it interesting that at the end of today's
show she said my dad is getting ready to come back on the show. He's getting stronger, getting better and all this [ __ ] And it's like as he's regaining power he's like sucking [laughter] her back in like a black hole into Magadom. I don't know. saying that multiple times for the past month or so, you know. So, on a very big issue she aligns completely with this Democratic Socialist, with this progressive. And I was just trying to get her to see that, but she won't like she won't cross teams. And and I don't know how to like exactly get her to see that. And I like I said, I'm I was a little afraid today when she was like, "Dad's getting ready to come back on."
Cuz she felt very MAGA today to me. She wasn't giving an inch on anything other than when we start talking about ice, and she was like, "I already told you. I don't like ice." Your mom and and many think MR wins, but Republicans in MI have insanity trying same GOP over and over ex- expecting a different result. Man, there were a lot of vowels missing in those words.
[laughter] Um yeah, I mean I I think that his primary win and obviously Mondaire Jones and I would even throw like AOC and and to some degree Bernie Sanders kind of like kicked this thing off when he was trying to do his thing, I guess. But this like hyper progressive thing that is happening in the Democratic Party where you're getting these like entrenched centrist candidates getting tens of millions of dollars to try and beat these upstart ultra progressives and they're losing. I [ __ ] love it.
Um I think it's like severely needed. The only way you're going to be able to combat the kind of Trumpian MAGA corporate billionaire interests in the Republican Party is with somebody who is super progressive. We've seen what centrism gets us in the Democratic Party. It gets us Trump. We we ran a centrist against Trump um in Kamala Harris. Didn't work out. So, you know, I I do feel like we need something to like you need to fight the the kind of extremism in the Trump Party with an equal measure of it on the opposite side.
I'm very happy about all that [ __ ] Okay, and I hope he wins. I hope he wins the actual election, of course. Captain Goku 2280. Hey Chad, just yesterday I paid $15 to fill up a 3-gallon gas tank for a lawnmower. I was pissed. [ __ ] Trump and his cronies and [ __ ] this goddamn war that we should not be in. So, um I don't I fill up my tank, you know, every and I don't drive a lot. I my only real drive is like to the gym and that's like two bucks away. I fill up my gas tank probably every month and a half, I would say. And uh I have noticed in the past, you know, 5 months or so, it ain't good. It's like double what I remember it being, you know, it [ __ ] sucks. And it's you you have this like personal experience of just watching your [ __ ] bank account dwindle or like paying more for [ __ ] so that means
you can't buy other things and do fun things you want to do. And it's like meanwhile you now see all this news of like Trump is giving uh these these uh refunds to all these giant corporations and these billionaires and [ __ ] and he ain't giving [ __ ] to us. And that like seems to have no effect on my mom. Even today she was like, "Have you seen all the billionaires are leaving New York cuz they're having to pay higher taxes?" She like feels for the billionaires, not the regular person who can't [ __ ] afford to eat. I don't get it. Chicken

And she started like having some clarity on this [ __ ] She started listening to reason a little bit. Um now that my dad is gaining power, is he the kind of like the black hole that sucks her into all of this? Has that always been the way it was? I don't know. Uh we're kind of like sifting through that right now. And I think as my dad returns to some kind of power, hopefully enough to come back on the show, I'm curious to see how it will affect my mom. She has already made some claims though. [ __ ] ICE and universal
health care for all. Will she go back on those claims? Will she literally backslide that far if my dad comes back on the show that she's not able to uh maintain those viewpoints? I don't know. And part of that is do you want to come do a live thing with me or not? I like doing this. I like answering people's questions and and uh just kind of seeing what the reaction to the show was cuz I know what my noise is at the end of it. I have kind of like two reactions. I have one when we when I stop record, when I hit the [ __ ] off button, you know, and I kind of I'm
like, [ __ ] Like today, for example, I was like, yeah, my mom really does seem to have taken a few steps back. That's what went through my head. Then I'm editing the show and I'm kind of spot-checking it and I I rewatch maybe like 25% of it as I'm like, you know, putting the graphics in and all that kind of stuff and just to kind of like reconfirm some things that, you know, I I had a memory of in the thing or like was this funny or was this stupid or whatever. I don't ever edit any of that [ __ ] out.
It's just for my own kind of like um to know, to have knowledge of what the show actually was. And then I I get another impression of it obviously during the lives when I get to see, you know, your comments and stuff and like what other people saw in the show that maybe I missed. At any rate, um if you want them on here, I I don't know. I don't know what to tell you. It ain't going to be me who's who's forcing them to do it.

[laughter] If there is a movie about those podcasts, I mean, we talked about this in in one of our simmer downs. I I think was my question was if there was a movie about your life, who would you want to play you? Um and I forget. God, what did my dad say? I don't think he said anyone, but we threw out some things. Robert De Niro, Tom Cruise. I think I said something like that. I always wonder like who would play my dad.
But I did a I am also like a TV writer and a movie writer, and I write books and stuff. All that shit's out there if you're curious about any of the books I've written. Google my name, and you will get those books. You can get them all on Amazon or wherever you buy books. Um one of the the projects that I did, my family has been like an inspiration for a lot of different things that I've written over the years.
But, I did a project at ABC. It was a sitcom pilot, a multi-cam sitcom pilot. This is many years ago. It was during Obama called Southern Discomfort. And it was a sitcom based on my family. The premise was a little bit skewed. The character that was me was um in his early 20s, and he was still living at home. He had graduated with a liberal arts degree, couldn't find a job, so he was still living at home with his mom and dad. He was super liberal. Mom and dad are super not liberal, just like in real life.
Uh that guy and the guy that played me was this actor Steve Talley. My sister's character was pushed a little bit. She was uh coming back. She had just graduated from Harvard Business School and had a job lined up at Goldman Sachs. And she was going to come back for like a couple of weeks after graduation before she starts this job. And of course, the dad is proud, the mom is proud, and they're like lording it over the son. They're like, "You should be more like her. Look, she's going out.
She's going to make a a difference in the world." And uh she winds up saying, "Fuck that. I have reconnected with my old high school boyfriend. I'm moving in with you, too. I've I've [ __ ] the job away, and now I'm going to live back here." And the parents are like, "Oh my god." And that's kind of the start of the show. And that uh Sophia Bush played my sister.
My dad was played by Don Johnson, and my mom was played by Mary Steenburgen. We made this pilot, you know, and then they threw it in the trash as as they basically do with everything. But, we made it, and it was super fun to do. And it I always like laugh about that fact that Don Johnson, who during the '80s was uh Time magazine or People magazine or whoever does it, the sexiest man alive. He won it like 3 years in a row or some [ __ ] in the '80s when he was on Miami Vice.
And I always say like the sexiest man alive played my dad [laughter] in this [ __ ] pilot. So funny to me. And [ __ ] Mary Steenburgen um won an Oscar, played my mom. That's [ __ ] wild. Newsmax like laying in his hospital bed eating Arby's. So I think once he my my deal with him was always like you got to get out of the hospital bed to be able to do the show. So we're hoping that we can get him in a wheelchair. He can, you know, sit in it for some amount of time, but like certainly not an hour at this point. So it may be kind of piecemeal thing where he comes back for like one topic and then [ __ ] off or I'm not sure exactly, but it is looking like he will be coming back at some point in

I'm going to try and make a t-shirt or something. I don't know. I just I have done several other podcasts and have done like merch on all of them and it just the merch becomes a job unto itself that I'm like [laughter] I'm hesitant to do it, to be honest, but I'll I'll put something together, I'm sure. Uh what what are we in? August?

I mean the the Democratic candidates that are running in especially in [ __ ] Oklahoma. That's one of the reddest states there is. It's like I don't know. I don't know. I'm sure she is not aware of who they even are.

There was the idea was put forth that like who is really controlling the US actions in this war in Iran? Is it Netanyahu? And cuz she was kind of trying to blame if I remember right she was trying to push the blame on like how bad the war is going on to somebody else that wasn't Trump. And I was like well doesn't that make it even worse if it's like not only is the war going terribly but Trump's not even in control of his own actions?

Um but yeah, she'll I'm sure my mom will be like, "It's the northern border. It's Canada." She'll try to put the blame there. Uh you know what? Yeah, that could also be a part of this cuz Jewels was obviously like her mega friend. She referred to her as that multiple times on this show. Maybe there is some um you know, feeling of like needing to uphold loyalty to Jewels through the ideology of mega. That could be a part of this. I think too my dad's rise to power is like affecting her to some degree here.
Yeah, I don't know. Today's show was definitely a step back. But that said, it's like from everything I have read, which is not an extensive amount, but it's enough to know some things about getting people out of cults, this is common. You make progress and then they have fear about leaving the cult or or whatever, you know. It's like you're never going to get somebody out clean. And if you if you read anything, I remember reading a long article in the LA Weekly. This is many years ago. But, it was about this woman uh written by her. She used to be the effectively like the head of propaganda
for the Church of Scientology. And she finally like came to her senses and was like, "I'm getting the [ __ ] out of here." And the article was about the kind of ordeal she went through to actually leave the Church of Scientology, which included like some wild [ __ ] like you know, she finally gets out of the actual like physical building, takes a car, nobody knows where she is, shows up at the airport, and then is just surrounded by Scientologists being like, "You Do you really want to do this? Do you really" Like they knew where she was and [ __ ]
She was like, "Oh my [ __ ] god." But, she in that article talked about um you know, the the process by which she came to the conclusion, "I have to get out of this now." And it was not just like a straight path or a great awakening or anything. It was these little stops and starts and two steps forward and one step back and all of that. Because I I I think that's true of um most big like changes in a person's psychology or ideology. I think they are like that. Every once in a while you'll hear of people having like a revelation
that changes their life. A lot of people have near-death experiences claim this, for example. But, that is like an extreme version of this because it it's like something where you like literally almost die or do die, in fact, and you know, cross over, see something, whatever. This is something like drastically different. It's It's trying to use logic and our family's connection to just like remind my mom that she's a different person than than the one MAGA has created. And so I don't like begrudge her the steps back. That is a part of this process and I it's one that I'm willing to endure because I
still think the the final goal will be achieved. We have made great progress toward that over the course of like you know, maybe the past three or four months we've been seeing some real [ __ ] crazy [ __ ] in terms of my mom coming to the right side. And it's like if there's going to be a week here or there or even a month here or there where she regresses a little bit, she's still way better than she was when we started this show. Today she still said I hate eyes, abolish eyes.
She said that on the show. So it's not like she's completely lost all progress. She's just got a little We hit a bump in the road. We will get through it. I am I firmly believe that. I doubt it, but uh yeah, she is hopefully going to turn full baby face. Have a nice good run there.

It was Trump's DHS head, that new guy, I forget his [ __ ] name now. But, there's that clip of him just [ __ ] roasting that dude. And my mom hates that. My mom hates these clips of like Democrats being mean to Republicans or Trump's appointees at these Senate hearings.

And I was scared shitless, which is why I got the washcloth and was like, you know, patting it down.
[laughter] Trying to just be like, "Oh, whatever. [ __ ] it. I'm fine." Good times. Not the only tin can lid that has injured me, either. I still have, across these two fingers right here, a nasty scar, and I can't feel anything from the scar up. Around that same time, some summer, I was in my friend's backyard. We were playing stickball. I hit a with a broomstick and a tennis ball. I hit the tennis ball over the his backyard fence, and it went to the neighbor's backyard. We didn't have a ball.
So, I was just kind of like squatting down in the grass, like, "Uh what the [ __ ] are we going to do?" Picking at some grass, and I hear him go, "This could make a good ball." And I look up. This [ __ ] had taken the lid off of a Folgers can and hucked it the metal lid, I mean, not the plastic covering, like the metal lid, and [ __ ] thrown it at me like a Frisbee.
And I put up my hand to block it. Ding. And it just [ __ ] blood cascading down my arm. And my dad was so [ __ ] pissed cuz I then it was during the summer, and I couldn't put this hand in a baseball glove. And he's like, "You've ruined your whole [ __ ] season." That will mean that not only are Democrats winning, but it will mean that the elections are not rigged, or at least they they're their attempt to rig them has failed.
So, I'm looking at that first. Um if these like hyper-progressive Democratic Socialists win, like is it are they all going to win? I can't I just don't think that'll happen. I don't think that'll happen. Um but I think a few of them might. I think a few of them have a chance here. Mondaire really is like wild to me. I don't know what the answer is to that. So, try not to be um too worked up about it. If you can, I mean, I look honestly at everything like this in life as this is just one step closer to the final goal of death, obviously. But, you know, whatever goals you have in life that have to occur over a time period, everything that happens to you leading up to that is one step closer to it, even if that thing is bad. Stephen Miller will try to hang on. There's a bunch of those people that are in the the like high high tier of Maga that are going to exist in politics in some capacity after this after Trump leaves.

I'll [ __ ] do whatever I want on like a scale that is reshaping humanity. That I don't think should be allowed. So, if I was uh you know, in control of anything, could pass laws and stuff, I would put a flat cap on all personal
net worth at $100 million. And I would have it so that corporations cannot pay for things like houses and boats and expenses and all that kind of [ __ ] so that you couldn't [ __ ] with that system either. You couldn't like trick around it. And if you make any money over that, all of that money would go into a fund and it would be redistributed among everybody in America who is like at the lower end of the income level provided that they have some job. This would just be like a stipend that they get. A a little booster or whatever, a subsidy if you
will, for the working class of America. I just don't see like why anyone needs more than a hundred million dollars. I don't even see why anyone needs a hundred million dollars, honestly. But like fine, if we want to have this idea of a luxury class in America and some people have enough money to like live in giant houses and drive big car, whatever. Fine. That's still enough money to do that.
And uh it just doesn't [ __ ] society in the way we're seeing now. This is how I do it. Um Arizona Mountain Girl, I think the reason that your mom identifies more with the poor rich New Yorkers is because none of this is really touching her income bracket. Yeah, and and my parents are like my dad's retired. They have what money they have. They're living off of the interest from it, you know. I I don't think like their lifestyle is never going to change.
in any real capacity. And so I think they are they're they're completely unaffected by it. Like my mom only drives to the um barn to ride Tiny. That's like her her only time she's ever putting gas in the car. It's to gas that car up and that's that's not a lot. And because they're both retired, it's like they don't have to continue working for income. So yeah, they they are unaffected by it. So, I mean I fully understand that the opinion of of Trump and America abroad is real bad and it's like trying to get my mom to understand that. I think my mom and my dad both are still kind of locked in
this fantasy world of the '80s where you know, it's like Top Gun and Sylvester Stallone and Rambo and America was like this big awesome muscle-bound [ __ ] country that was the coolest thing in the world. I think they're still living in that fantasy, which was by the way a fantasy even then. But, the it at least the fantasy of like prosperity in the '80s seemed more real.

So, I mean we've talked to my mom about that that the the kind of uh reputation of America has definitely taken a huge backslide as a result of Trump. She doesn't see it that way, though.

At a certain point because of that podcast, I really got into the idea of like a lot of these reality players will get death threats and [ __ ] on Bachelor and and because people will think like whatever villain edit they're getting in the show is real and that the person is a real piece of [ __ ] and so people will light them up.
And I was always like, "This is [ __ ] wild. Like people can't understand what they're seeing is not real. It's just a a small snapshot, especially in those shows where it's so edited and so pushed for like a purposeful narrative that the producers feel is going to be satisfying and stuff." But it's like riling people up enough that they will say this mean [ __ ] So I understood like, you know, at kind of a base level, um people are like easily trapped into having these very strong emotional reactions and firing off super negative comments toward whoever because there's also a level of anonymity and it's like,
you know, a person saying like, "Fuck you. [ __ ] your mom. She's a piece of shit." Fired off. That makes them feel good in that moment. Like some kind of self-righteous justification has been triggered and now they get their dopamine hit. And that that's like what the kind of negative side of the internet is. But I know for me that it doesn't affect how I feel about my mom or how my mom feels about me or how I feel about us having this conversation or anything.
Um nor do I feel the need to like justify to any of those people making those comments like, "You don't know my parents." I know that they don't. You know, and I know that this is like a a parasocial kind of thing. The our show is this 1-hour conversation that we're having about politics and obviously our own uh family dynamics and and certain events in our lives and stuff seep into it as well, but the comments aren't like that's just the internet, you know. It's like go on [ __ ] Reddit. Go on like a Bachelor subreddit or a Love Island subreddit. Jesus Christ. Like they want
people to be killed for whatever they've done in in service of this like weird reality dating show where they're twerking on each other and having goop like [ __ ] you know, shot on them out of cannons and stuff. Futility of life for those who don't know was a weird little offshoot thing that I would do when I was doing it old podcast with a dear friend of mine two dear friends of mine Tommy Blotch and Will Sasso called 10-minute podcast. On that podcast I would occasionally just go out into the world and I basically invited
anyone to say email me and I will bring a little recorder and we will sit down and have a multiple hour conversation over lunch or something about the futility of life. I don't know how many of those little episodes that I did they're out there you can find them I'm sure. Uh certainly my viewpoint on fundamental reality has changed since then and I don't like futility of life you know what that actually means to me is that this thing we're in is not all there is.
That has always kind of been the case. Or I won't say it's always been the case. I won't say that's true actually cuz for a long time I think I was like a hardcore materialist and indeed I thought this was all there is and when you die that's it, you know, nothing else. I certainly don't don't think that now. I've had many personal experiences that lead me to that conclusion and um I think we can all feel it. Something's coming apart here. Something weird is happening. I don't know how like down the rabbit hole anyone is with the Mandela effect and CERN and all of that,
but like just everything that we're learning about kind of like deeper layers of reality, whether it's through human consciousness or particle physics or whatever, it it all points in a direction of something else is going on here than than simply what we can see, taste, touch, hear, and feel. So, uh yeah, I don't know. I don't know what how that conversation would go if I if I did another kind of series of things like that where I just go have lunch with a random person and like talk to them about their life and, you know, doesn't matter what you're doing and why are you doing what
you're doing and all that. I think it probably would go very differently, honestly. I don't know that I would I don't view life as um futile, I suppose, in the same way, if you want to say it, but those episodes are out there if you want to go check it out. I was in Paris and Amsterdam. Neither of those places, at least in the areas that I was in and the things I was doing, had anything to do with Trump or American politics or anything like that. I'm not sure that'll be a good um line of logic on her but I'm I am sure like mortality I mean [ __ ] I remember when I was going through cancer treatment. Not that I care about like how I want to be in quotes remembered per se, but like the idea of mortality, the Grim Reaper staring you in the face it was ever present during cancer treatment. Um I myself like luckily the cancer did not spread anywhere else in my body, but
going through radiation I lost 50 lb or something in the course of a month and a half. I was down to like 135 lb. Which is like I had I don't think I weighed that since junior high, you know. And look like a skeleton. I remember one day one of my friends came over and I I hadn't seen her like since I you know started getting into the like real deep end of it and I opened the door and she just started [ __ ] crying by looking at me. That's never good. Um so yeah, I I think mortality does interesting things to how you view the
world and certainly emotionally, you know, how it impacts you and stuff and I think my mom is dealing with that for sure. Hunt and fam, Hunt and Farm, sorry. The other week y'all were discussing Epstein and Mary Lou brought up something completely unrelated and frivolous, California driver's license. Please watch out for that. Don't let her deflect, especially on topics that are her red lines. Oh, her red lines, maybe.
Uh I don't remember that specifically, but I will try to do um the my my best to not let that happen. D Mooney California 324, I just saw the pilot. What pilot? Oh, for um Southern Comfort, probably. I think it's on the internet somewhere, uh link to it or whatever. V, I hope you enjoyed it. Um the the story of that pilot, by the way, let me put it back on here so I don't mess up.
It was [ __ ] wild. I had just made a the prior year, I made my first network pilot with a buddy of mine, Will Sasso. We co-created the show called um Waiting to Die, and we made that pilot. It had T.J. Miller in it, it had Josh Gad in it. God damn, that thing was funny. Um and then they threw it in the trash in favor of that year at CBS, Jenna Elfman, I think, had a pod or a show called Accidentally on Purpose that lasted like five episodes and then they canceled it.
And that was it. They only put one show on the air that year. Um but everybody loved that pilot and people were like, "Oh, [ __ ] what's next from him?" So, I sold that show the next year, the Southern Comfort one. And ABC proceeded to fire my showrunner and put these two guys on it as showrunners who wrote The Smurfs. Terrible. They rewrote the whole pilot, unbeknownst to me at the time, but after we, maybe a year or two after we did it, I was sitting down and just I was like curious I wanted to watch the pilot for Family Ties.
And as I was watching I was like, holy [ __ ] Those two guys literally plagiarized Family Ties. The pilot they rewrote was just Family Ties laid over my pilot. I couldn't [ __ ] believe it and I was like I was so pissed. I was like, God, I wish I would have known that at the time. I could have just blown them up and got them kicked off the pilot. But yeah, it was a horrible experience. Um they turned it into a massive piece of [ __ ] and then they threw it away and that was that.

literally died. My dad died and came back to life uh in the span of these last however many months. You know, like I I can't imagine that doesn't change your perspective a little bit. Soften you maybe? I I dare I say that about my own father. But um I don't know. I I I'm curious. I don't think things will be exactly the same. I don't think they can be after this.

I just [ __ ] finished watching all the episodes that are out. Seven episodes are out. The eighth episode comes out in 3 days, the finale. How do you even put this into words? Alex Cooper, who is the host of Call Her Daddy, has a production company. She now makes reality shows. She made this one, Let's Marry Harry. It's on Netflix.
Um She also made Love Overboard. Gabby Windey, who was a a Traitors winner and a Bachelor player who made it to the penultimate round on her season and is extremely talented, extremely funny. Alex Cooper finds a way, somehow, in all of her shows to make these electric reality stars completely boring and shitty. I don't get it. I I think it's one of the worst um dating series I've ever seen. It was shot over a year ago. We already know the outcome. So, that kind of like plays into it a little bit. It's just boring. I was just bored to tears through the whole thing. And it doesn't
even look good. It's low-rent. They all of like the little compatibility challenges are just like out in the front yard of that house they're staying at. I think it's very bad. That's my two cents. Sharmike is our final question, 082009. Backsliding, watching Newsmax with Bob. Yeah, she backslid a little bit today. As I said, these things are going to happen. Um, it's part of this process. And so, for me, it it's like I don't begrudge her that, especially in this week, you know, or a couple weeks. The thing she really a couple months, let's let's be honest. Like from my dad's first kind of
like decline in health to him literally dying and coming back. Her best friend died. Like she's been through a lot of [ __ ] And if she finds some comfort in a little bit of a backslide, that's fine. I have no problem with that whatsoever. We will continue to have the conversation. We will continue to get her to where she needs to be. And right now, that backslide may be a little bit of comfort to her in a time where like [ __ ] is really rough in her life. So, like I said, I don't begrudge her that at all.
Um, I don't I'm not even disappointed in it. It's like, you know, would I like it to be the other way? Of course. But it ain't. And that's fine. And we will continue to have that conversation to get her to the end, to get her to the [ __ ] the final goal. That is still going to happen. Um, thank you everybody who has joined me tonight.
